Our Pre Congress Day started early with the 1st Annual ACPF Fun Run and Walk at 6 AM. The VSS team was well represented. A great time was had by all for a worthy cause. Not so sure about the 440 AM wake up call though. L-R: Heidi Atkins, PA, Dr. Harper, Elizabeth Milligan, RN

This is my 18th consecutive opening day for the Annual American College of Phlebology (ACP) Congress.   It is one of my favorite days of the year.  VSS is well represented at this years annual congress.   Terri Harper, Elizabeth Milligan and Heidi Atkins are participants this year, as invited faculty helping fulfill the VSS commitment of outreach and education.  Way to go team!

The ACP annual congress is a unique event which exceeds my expectations every year.  It has been transformational for both my life and my practice.   From the early years I returned home energized to provide the best vein care.  My Phlebology colleagues became lifelong friends.  Encouraging and passionate about our careers and patients we have shared our passion and expertise with each other.

The ACP annual congress is an  educational opportunity through lectures, research, mentoring and learning about the latest advances in vein care.  It is exciting  to bring these advances home to Macon, Warner Robins and to the Vein Specialists of the South team and patients.

VenaSeal: A New Varicose Vein Treatment Discussed At The American College Of Phlebology

The educational highlight for me today was learning about one of the latest advance in the field of Phlebology.   VenaSeal.  VenaSeal was released in the US last month and was featured on Dr. Oz last week.   It is a novel method to close the Saphenous Vein, the major underlying cause of symptomatic varicose veins.  In lay terms, VenaSeal glues the vein shut without the need for tumescent local anesthesia, avoids the use of compression hose and allows immediate return to work.

The evening ended with a wonderful dinner with Gannon, one of our industry friends who was our Covidien rep at VSS for a number of years before moving on to other opportunities.

This morning,  I had the opportunity to share my knowledge in the Practice Management Track.   My lecture was titled, “Maintaining a Strong a Strong Team:  Strategies for Team Cohesion and Employee Satisfaction.”  The rest of the day I enjoyed learning and socializing with new and old friends.  Be on the lookout for my musing from tomorrow.
