Spider Vein Removal Macon

The VSS Difference and Spider Veins?

Worldwide, most spider veins are treated with cosmetic sclerotherapy. As part of our Comprehensive Vein Training Center®, we share our expertise with physicians from around the country on the best methods for cosmetic sclerotherapy.  For select patients with delicate spider veins, laser therapy is a safe, effective alternative spider vein treatment. As Central Georgia’s only IAC Accredited Vein Center, we are here to serve you.

We provide comprehensive vein care including cosmetic sclerotherapy and state of the art laser therapy designed to treat pesky spider veins that do not respond to sclerotherapy. At VSS, we have the expertise and experience to help you overcome your spider veins however they’re best treated.

How Does Laser Therapy Help Spider Veins?

Laser therapy targets spider veins based on color, focusing on the red and blue of the affected vessels, with the goal of damaging the vein wall without injuring the skin or surrounding tissues. While laser therapy may feel like a rubber band snapping against the skin, we do everything possible to make your experience comfortable. As the laser energy penetrates the spider veins, their structure is compromised, causing them to collapse and be reabsorbed by the body. Your spider veins will fade over time.

Am I a Good Candidate?

An office consultation can determine the best approach to treat your spider veins. Bulging varicose veins and other underlying vein problems should be treated first before your spider veins.

If your spider veins are too small for sclerotherapy, or you have a pink/red bruise called ‘venous matting’, you could be an ideal candidate for laser therapy. Let the team at Vein Specialists of the South help you get started.

Does Laser Spider Vein Therapy Hurt?

The VSS laser is specially designed to target spider veins.  Patients tell us it feels like a rubber band snapping, but there is little to no discomfort with the laser treatment. The time needed varies with the extent of spider veins present, with most appointments lasting no more than an hour.

After your laser treatment, we recommend wearing compression socks or hose for 7-10 days. Avoiding hot baths and strenuous exercise may speed healing and ideal results.

What Results Will I See?

For optimal results with laser spider vein removal therapy, expect a series of 3-6 sessions. Within 2-3 weeks of your first treatment, your spider veins will appear less vivid and will continue to fade with additional treatments. The degree of response and number of sessions needed may vary.

Is There Any Downtime or Risks?

Laser therapy for spider veins has few side effects when performed in our outpatient office setting. The treated area may feel tender following your treatment, much like a sunburn.

If you respond poorly to laser treatment, you may have undiagnosed vein problems, as the source of your spider veins. If your spider veins do not respond the temptation is to increase the laser energy which carries with it the risk of skin burns, pigmentation, and blistering which can leave life-long scarring. If you have a poor response we recommend a full vein evaluation prior to additional laser treatments or cosmetic sclerotherapy.
