Dr. Ralph Delius

Dr. Ralph Delius is a board certified cardiothoracic surgeon with over 25 years of experience. Joining the VSS team in 2020, Dr. Delius continues to share his expertise to help patients enjoy Better Looking® and better feeling legs. Prior to specializing in vein care, he was a cardiovascular surgeon at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. In this position, Dr. Delius helped countless patients regain hope of a better life through his cardiovascular procedures. After years of invasive procedures that required long recovery times, Dr. Delius knew he wanted to be at the forefront of  newer medicine offering minimally invasive procedures. Working with Vein Specialists of the South, Dr. Delius blends his cardiovascular and venous experience to help identify and treat patients suffering from varicose veins, spider veins, venous ulcers, and leg swelling. He is dedicated to listening and helping patients find the best options available based on their individual needs.

Educator

Dr. Delius is committed to the education of patients and providers.  For over 23 years, Dr. Delius served as a professor of surgery at universities across the country to share his knowledge and expertise with tomorrow’s surgeons. 

At Vein Specialists of the South, we are passionate about continual education. We believe that our patients receive the best care because we remain at the forefront of our field.  As a gifted researcher, Dr. Delius has contributed to numerous publications, abstracts, and journals to share his knowledge with the medical community. He has contributed to over 100 original scientific articles and chapters in major surgical textbooks. Additionally, Dr. Delius and the VSS team, regularly attend and speak at national conferences. 

 

Board-Certification

Dr. Ralph Delius is double board-certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (1996) and the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine (ABVLM).

Professional Organizations

Dr. Delius is an active member of numerous national professional organizations. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is an active member of the American Heart Association where he advises on councils for Cardiovascular Disease in the Young and Cardio-Thoracic and Vascular Surgery. Additionally, Dr. Delius is regularly invited to present at national conferences and meetings on his research.

Family And Community Involvement

You can tell what is important to someone by where they invest their time and talents. In 2003, Dr. Delius started a medical missions program to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. Through his trips, he was able to give of his time, energy, and knowledge as a physician to serve the people in this area. After over 15 years of missions, Dr. Delius is proud of the work these missions have done to provide the people of the Dominican Republic with access to pediatric cardiology and surgery. Patients that were previously left without treatment now have a chance thanks to the efforts of this organization. 

Dr. Delius is a proud father to four children and four grandchildren. When he’s not spending time with family, he enjoys golfing, skiing, fishing, hiking, and bicycling.
