Are You Bothered by the Look or Feel of Varicose Veins?

If painful, bulging varicose veins are affecting your daily life, we understand how disruptive it can be. You may feel self-conscious about how your legs look or experience discomfort that limits your activities, from work to spending time with loved ones. Perhaps you’ve even changed your wardrobe to hide your veins, or you’ve been avoiding activities you once enjoyed due to leg pain and fatigue.

The great news is that you don’t have to live with this discomfort or hide your legs any longer. With our Comprehensive Vein Care® approach, you can achieve Better Veins for Life®. We take the time to listen to your concerns, identify the root cause, and craft a customized treatment plan that addresses both your symptoms and cosmetic goals. Our goal is to provide the right procedure for each patient at the right time—all with our VSS WOW service!

Varicose Veins Macon

What Are Varicose Veins?

Your venous system functions as a network of veins (‘pipes’), calf muscles (‘pumps’), and one-way valves. When working correctly, this system moves blood up through your leg veins toward the heart, even against gravity.

Varicose veins form when this system fails, often due to issues with the one-way valves. When these valves don’t work properly, blood flows backward and pools (a process called reflux) in the veins, causing them to enlarge and bulge. Over time, this reflux can lead to the progression of varicose veins and accompanying symptoms. Varicose veins can range from smaller reticular veins (1-3 mm) to larger, bulging veins (3 mm or more).

What are the Symptoms of Varicose Veins?

Varicose vein symptoms can be subtle and are often overlooked by both patients and doctors. Common symptoms include heaviness, tired and achy legs, leg swelling, throbbing, burning, itching, night leg cramps, and restless legs. In severe cases, varicose veins can lead to emergency visits due to bleeding or blood clots. Delaying treatment can result in skin changes and venous ulcers. Additionally, you may have “hidden vein disease,” experiencing symptoms and vein reflux without visible varicose veins.

As a leader in Comprehensive Vein Care®, VSS specializes exclusively in vein health, having served over 30,000 patients since 1996. Veins aren’t just one thing we do, they’re the only thing we do.®

What are your Risks of Developing Varicose Veins?

Several factors can raise your risk of developing varicose veins:

  • Age: As you age, your veins grow weaker and more susceptible to vein disease.
  • Genetics: Family history is the number one contributing factor for developing vein disease.
  • Obesity: Anything that puts excessive pressure on the veins, such as obesity, can cause vein disease.
  • Gender: Women are more likely to develop vein disease than men.
  • Lifestyle: Careers involving prolonged sitting or standing can lead to higher risks of varicose veins.
  • Pregnancy:Pregnancy raises the likelihood of developing varicose veins due to increased blood volume and hormonal changes.

What Comprehensive Vein Care® Treatments are Available at VSS?

Conservative care is the cornerstone of the VSS Better Veins for Life® Principles designed to preserve your vein health.

Endovenous Thermal Ablation – This procedure uses thermal energy to address the leading cause of varicose veins: reflux in the Great or Small Saphenous Veins. A small radiofrequency catheter or laser fiber is inserted into the affected vein under ultrasound guidance. The heat seals the vein, allowing the body to absorb it naturally. This method boasts a long-term success rate of over 95%.

VenaSeal  – This non-thermal treatment uses a medical-grade adhesive to close the Saphenous Vein under ultrasound guidance. Minimal local anesthesia is required at the insertion site. VenaSeal™ effectively reduces saphenous reflux in over 95% of cases, redirecting blood flow into the healthy veins.

Varithena® – This innovative, non-thermal approach uses a proprietary foam sclerosant to treat reflux in the Saphenous Veins, tributaries, and branch veins. The foam damages the vein lining, causing it to close and redirect blood flow to healthy veins nearby.

Ambulatory Phlebectomy – This minimally invasive treatment for large bulging varicose veins. Veins can be removed under local anesthetic through tiny incisions that rarely require stitches.  It is a one and done procedure.

Sclerotherapy – Commonly used for recurrent varicose veins and saphenous reflux, this procedure involves injecting a foamed sclerosant, such as Varithena®, to collapse the affected veins. If blood remains in the treated vein, evacuation speeds healing, with additional sessions potentially needed for full results.

All of these vein treatments are performed in our comfortable office setting, meaning you can Walk In. Walk Out.® with little to no downtime after your procedure!

What Results Should I Expect?

At VSS, most patients experience significant symptom relief and an improved appearance of their legs following vein treatments. The speed of results depends on the severity of your vein issues and the specific procedures selected. With our VSS Better Veins. Better Life.® plan, many patients notice immediate and dramatic improvements in both comfort and leg appearance.

Our approach sets VSS apart from other vein clinics. Rather than adopting a “wait and see” attitude, we treat the root cause of your vein issues—addressing painful varicose veins and cosmetic spider veins with a comprehensive plan.

Your personalized treatment plan starts with addressing saphenous reflux (if present) and bulging varicose veins. In about 4-6 weeks, patients are ready to start cosmetic sclerotherapy for any remaining spider veins.

For saphenous vein reflux, we use an endovenous procedure that redirects blood flow to healthy veins, often leading to rapid symptom improvement. For symptomatic varicose veins, our preferred approach is ambulatory phlebectomy, which removes bulging veins and related discomfort in one session.

Don’t settle for a “nothing can be done” answer to bulging veins and leg pain. With our Better Veins. Better Life.® plan, you’ll join thousands of satisfied patients who love their results—and you can too!

If you have saphenous vein reflux, it is corrected with an endovenous procedure and the venous blood flow is rerouted to healthy veins and symptoms improve quickly. We prefer ambulatory phlebectomy over the other options for bulging symptomatic varicose veins (‘wait and see’ and sclerotherapy). With this approach, your bulging veins and associated symptoms are gone at the end of your procedure.

Don’t fall for the line that nothing can or should be done about your bulging veins and leg pain. Comprehensive Vein Care® is a game-changer. Thousands of others just like you love the results and you can, too.
