Facial veins on the cheeks and nose are often associated with liver disease or alcohol use, but in truth, they have many contributing factors. Unfortunately, your friends and co-workers may not know that. It is easy to see how they make you feel self-conscious and embarrassed in social and work situations.
You do not have to live with this embarrassment. Most facial veins respond well to office-based treatments. Vein Specialists of the South partners with Spa Medical, as your premier centers for treating facial veins.
Facial veins are common around your nose, mouth, chin or eyes. They usually present as spider veins, with small red, blue or purple clusters of veins just beneath the skin. However, the veins at the corner of your eye, and down around and under your eyes, can be larger blue/green veins.
Facial veins are a normal part of aging, sun exposure, genetics, rosacea, medications (steroids), pregnancy, liver disease, or inherited disorders. Larger varicose veins on the face and neck can be an inherited venous malformation. These malformations are typically present at birth or appear in early childhood. These require a more thorough evaluation and complex treatment plan.
At Vein Specialists of the South, we work in conjunction with Spa Medical to treat facial veins.
A variety of treatment options are available based on your individual condition and patient needs. These treatments include topical medications, dietary changes to avoid triggers, laser, good skincare and more. Laser therapy is the number one treatment choice for most facial spider veins. Sometimes, combination treatments are the most effective way to reduce your face veins.
If you have large blue-green veins near your eyes, the treatment options depend on the size and location of the veins. Some respond well to laser therapy at Spa Medical. Other larger veins may respond better to ambulatory phlebectomy, a minimally invasive outpatient method. Ambulatory phlebectomy is done with a gentle local anesthetic, and micro-incision (2mm) for removal of the problem veins, with minimal to no scarring.
Depending on the treatment chosen for your facial spider veins the timing of the results may vary. Topical skincare and dietary changes may take time to control your facial veins.
If laser therapy is recommended, several sessions may be needed for good long-term maintenance. Visible reduction of face veins is often seen after the 2nd treatment and will continue through the course of your regimen.
The redness of rosacea can be treated with topical skincare and dietary changes. Laser therapy and a radiofrequency-based treatment, ‘Secret RF’ are effective in reducing the response to stimulus which causes flares.
For patients who have ambulatory phlebectomy at VSS for facial veins around the eyes, the recovery is a few days. There may be some minor bruising, but the visible vein is immediately eliminated.
It’s just 3 easy steps…
Micro-phlebectomy is a minimally invasive method to remove varicose veins of the face. It is a simple Walk in. Walk out.® outpatient office treatment. Done under a gentle local anesthesia, there is minimal to no downtime, though some bruising around the eye is possible.
With laser therapy treatments, you may experience tenderness of the treatment area, and some redness that feels like a mild sunburn. You may also experience swelling. These effects resolve within a few hours or days.
Topical treatments for rosacea have no downtime. But with any topical treatment, some irritation of the skin can be possible.
