Lympheda Therapy is comprised of four different components.
1. Manual Lymph Drainage- Accumulated lymphatic fluids are manually rerouted to properly functioning lymph nodes using the hands.
2. Skin Care- Meticulous skin care is important to restore skin integrity; i.e, dry skin. The purpose of proper skin care is to reduce the risk of infection and fungus development.
3. Compression- There are two different types of compression used for lymphedema. Compression short stretch bandages are used during the intensive phase of treatment. Compression garments are then fitted for the effected extremity for management after therapy.
4. Education and Exercise- Home management can include a compression pump, self massage techniques, skin care, and remedial exercises to further reduce and manage swelling.
