Progression to Larger Veins
While spider veins themselves rarely cause serious medical problems, they can be an early sign of underlying venous insufficiency. Without proper evaluation and treatment of underlying vein problems, spider veins may worsen over time and potentially progress to larger varicose veins.
Some spider veins are connected to deeper “feeder veins” with reflux or backward blood flow. If these underlying veins are not treated, spider veins will often recur after treatment, making a comprehensive evaluation critical for long-term healing.
