Are varicose veins and spider veins a cosmetic concern for you? If you are embarrassed to wear shorts or bathing suits, you may find yourself in long pants even during our hot Georgia summers. If this is you, the cosmetic appearance of your spider and varicose veins may cause you to seek treatment.

However, you may also experience physical discomfort like heaviness in the legs, pain, night cramps and restless legs. These symptoms may affect your quality of life and performance of normal daily activities. Pain can be exhausting, slow you down, wear you out and affect your work and play. The good news is that you don’t have to live with the pain; we can provide varicose veins pain relief! With the Vein Specialists of the South “Better Veins for Life®” relief tips and our non-invasive in-office treatments, you can have your varicose and spider veins treated without major surgery, lengthy recovery times and the pain that goes with it.

Varicose Veins Pain Relief: Managing The Symptoms Of Varicose Veins Prior To Treatment

Depending on your symptoms, the initial varicose veins pain relief treatment may include following the VSS “Better Veins for Life®” Principles. These principles include losing weightexercising, wearing compression socks, and regular leg elevation. If you see improvement of symptoms with these measures you should see a phlebologist to determine the best treatment options for you.  However, if you do not see improvements of your symptoms, additional testing is in order.  The good news is that surgical vein removal, or vein stripping, is no longer the standard of care. Treatment options available today are far less invasive and are often done right in our office with minimal discomfort under a gentle local anesthesia.

Varicose Veins Pain Relief & Treatments: What To Expect

Most modern varicose vein treatments can be completed in an office based setting using gentle local anesthesia and a mild oral sedative to ensure patient comfort and safety. The most common underlying cause of vein disease, or “venous reflux,” is treated with other treatment methods. The Closure Venefit Targeted Endovenous Radiofrequency Therapy replaces vein stripping by using heat energy to seal the bad portion of the saphenous vein, allowing the body to reroute the blood flow to healthy veins.   Varithena, a form of Sclerotherapy using a medical solution to close the refluxing saphenous veins and some varicose veins, is another solution. VenaSeal offers patients a less invasive, non-heat, non-chemical, FDA-approved alternative to treat the saphenous vein using a medical grade adhesive to seal the vein shut. Varithena and VenaSeal are unique, requiring only a single local anesthetic injection, which is great for needle phobic patients. With the saphenous reflux corrected, attention can be turned to the bulging varicose veins.  Minimally invasive Ambulatory Phlebectomy removes the large, bulging veins using a gentle local anesthetic and micro-incisions. This provides immediate relief of the bulging veins with great cosmetic results. The final step is a series of cosmetic sclerotherapy injections for the spider veins. You may experience mild soreness and bruising for a few days after the treatments, with most patients using band aid strips and oral acetaminophen.

Healing Time And Varicose Veins Pain Relief After The Procedure

In addition to minimal discomfort, these procedures offer quick recovery, minimal down time and little-to-no scarring. Any post-operative soreness can be relieved with the use of over-the-counter pain medication. You will be encouraged to resume your daily routine immediately, and strenuous activities may be resumed within a week to 10 days. To achieve optimal results, you may need to wear light compression stockings for a short period, though we recommend wearing them more frequently and long term to help prevent new varicose veins from forming.
